Abierto Mexicano de Diseño 2014
Working from the heart of the historic centre of Mexico City, Moritz Waldemeyer has fused technology, wearable architecture and performance together to create a moving light installation.
Commissioned by Abierto Mexicano de Diseño, Moritz Waldemeyer worked alongside Mexican fashion designer Carlos Ortega to create the architecturally inspired skirts which were worn by a combination of dancers, performers and acrobats. Each of the sculptural skirts were fitted with innovative LED technology, developed by Moritz Waldemeyer, that emitted an array of colours and animations while the performance took place.
Applying parametric architecture principals the skirts have a skeletal design that come alive into a multi faceted shape. The LED’s applied to the underside of the skirts allows light to seep out the multiple cut outs giving an indirect illumination to the performance.
Utilising the back drop of historic Mexico City the procession was performed twice throughout the week long design festival bringing innovative lighting design to the streets.
