VOYAGE

Voyage, currently installed in JFK New York airport, is constructed of a 15-foot high double-loop metal framework embellished with 52,000 Swarovski crystals and 2000 motion-sensitive LEDs programmed to light up as travelers pass by. The effect is one of uninterrupted movement, inspired by water and continuous human passage through the world.

Founder of Fuse Project Yves Behar is a prolific industrial designer who has branched out into may diverse areas of design, working on prestigious commissions from the likes of BMW, Nike and Microsoft. In his work he aims to combine functional modernism with expressive poeticism. He now turns his genius towards light installation.

The cyclical structure is intended to express the meandering adventures of the mind and the body when a voyage is undertaken. As the waves of light pass through its surface, the LEDs interact with the crystals, reflecting or refracting the light in an organic way, evoking the surface of a flowing river. The union of fluid movement and form is powerfully lyrical, as the entire sculpture pulsates with the rhythms of its passers-by. Here technology and the human life collaborate in an installation that is paradoxically evocative of nature yet sublimely artificial.
