WALDEMEYER’S STEP BY STEP INSTALLATION, DECEMBER 2004
The Step by Step mobile sculpture merges the mathematical precision of computer controlled robotics with the elegance of Swarovski crystals. Each crystal is suspended from two servo-driven wires that moves the crystals in orbit. The synchronized motion of all seven crystals creates a mesmerizing three-dimensional choreography that exploits the crystals reflective qualities as the light hits them from different angles. Waldemeyer’s inspiration came from his previous work for Swarovski: when handling the crystals, it is their incredible sparkle that is striking. By propelling the crystals through space in a counter-intuitive motion, Waldemeyer draws our attention to the unique beauty of the crystal. A first prototype of this concept was shown at the RCA, London during the interim show of the Design Projects department, 2005
